Northeastern states led by Meghalaya and Manipur witnessed significant rise in hiring activity during September while major employment hubs faced a slowdown, says a report.

Meghalaya witnessed a 22 per cent rise while Manipur posted a 9 per cent growth during September this year. According to TimesJobs RecruiteX, this is the first time since January 2016 that these states have grown at these rates.

"While there has been no dearth of quality professionals coming from Northeast India, however employability within the region has been a tough challenge," said Nilanjan Roy, Head of Strategy, Times Business Solutions.

With the government's entrepreneurial promotion policies and other efforts in job creation, industries are overcoming these hurdles, Roy added.

Among other states, Odisha witnessed 13 per cent rise in hiring activity and Maharashtra saw 9 per cent jump.

Sector-wise, IT-ITeS, consumer durables, FMCG and BFSI industries were primary drivers of this growth.

The report said media, entertainment and journalism professionals reported 3 per cent rise in demand in September, while IT and telecom professionals reported 6 per cent drop and business management and consultants saw 20 per cent drop.

Freshers and professionals with less than 2 years of experience posted 2 per cent rise in demand, while experienced candidates saw low demand during the month, with professionals with 10-20 years of experience witnessing the biggest drop (19 per cent), the report said.
