Northeast monsoon brings rainfall to Kerela

With Northeast monsoon becoming active over Kerala, most places in the state received rains today.

Punalur in Kollam district which received a rainfall of 9 cm, Peringamala in the state capital receiving 8 cm of rainfall and Ottapalam and Konni in Palakkad and Pathnamthitta districts witnessing rainfall of 7 cm each, were among the areas where heavy rains were recorded, According to Indian Meteorological Department here.

Rain and thunder showers are likely to occur in most places in the state and in at least one or two places in Lakshadweep in the next 5 days, the IMD said.

Heavy rainfall will occur in isolated places till the morning of November 2, the weather bulletin said.
 

The state was today declared drought-hitby the Kerala government as the state received deficient rainfall of 34 per cent in the South West Monsoon.
