BJP today said the party was "not taken into confidence" on transfer of bomb blast convicts Devender Pal Singh Bhullar and Gurdeep Singh Khera to Punjab and the decision was taken by its ally Shiromani Akali Dal.
"We don't know why terrorists are being transferred to Punjab. The state government has neither spoken to us nor have they taken us into confidence. It's SAD's own decision," BJP's national secretary Tarun Chugh said.
Khera, 55, is the second convict to be brought to Punjab today after 1993 blasts convict Bhullar, who was shifted to Amritsar from Delhi's Tihar jail on June 1. Khera was brought from Karnataka.
Reacting to Khera's alleged remark that "state's atmosphere would be disturbed if the government does injustice to him" Chugh said "nothing of this sort would happen".
"The Central government is in the strong hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Atmosphere in Punjab or any other state would not be allowed to be disturbed," he said.
He was speaking at a programme organised by the BJP to mark the 40th anniversary of imposition of the Emergency.
The party felicitated five Jalandhar residents, including veteran party leader Kishan Lal Dhall, who were jailed during the Emergency.
Speaking at the occasion state party president Kamal Sharma said those in power "imposed the Emergency to continue their reign."
"The role the youths played in saving democracy, society, and the nation during the Emergency must be told to today's generation," Sharma said.
