Guwahati Police Commissioner Jyotirmoy Chakravarty today said his team is not facing any political pressure in investigating Congress MLA Rumi Nath's alleged link with a car thief and arms dealer.
"I can say you there is no political pressure on me in this case. I have got full independence," Chakravarty said at a hurriedly called press conference this evening.
On not arresting Nath despite registering two cases against her, the top cop said the police would take its next step only after the investigation was over.

"Police investigation is on. We cannot arrest her on the basis of a mere allegation. She is a public representative. If we find any substantial evidence against her, we will definitely go ahead," he said.
The Police was taking time because it was examining all aspects of the case and Nath's possible link with Chauhan, Chakravarty added.
