Not much relief from intense cold in Haryana, Punjab

Haryana and Punjab continued to remain in the grip of cold conditions though there was marginal rise in minimum temperatures recorded across the states.

The minimum temperatures yesterday hovered close to the freezing point at many places in the two states.

Narnaul in Haryana, which was the coldest in the plains yesterday at 1.8 degrees Celsius, today recorded a low of 3.9 deg Celsius, which was within the normal levels, a MeT department report said.

Ambala registered a low of 6.1 deg C while Hisar's minimum settled at 6 deg C. Karnal, where foggy conditions prevailed early today, registered a low of 7.2 deg C.
 

Minimum in the Union Territory of Chandigarh also rose by a couple of notches to settle at 8 deg C.

In Punjab, Amritsar saw a minimum of 6 deg C while respective minimum temperatures at Ludhiana and Patiala were recorded at 6.5 deg C and 8.4 deg C.

Meanwhile, cold conditions gripped most places in Punjab and Haryana during the day as maximum temperature dropped sharply.

Chilly weather swept Chandigarh, where the maximum settled at 11.5 degrees Celsius, nine degrees below the normal, MeT Department here.

Ambala in Haryana also had a cold day recording a maximum of 15.3 degrees Celsius, down three notches below normal limits.

Hisar registered a high of 16 degrees Celsius, down four notches against normal.

In Punjab, Ludhiana and Patiala recorded identical maximums of 12.6 degrees Celsius each, both down by five and six notches below normal, respectively.

Amritsar also had a cold day recording a high of 15.1 degrees Celsius, down three notches against normal.

Meanwhile, the MeT has forecast dense to very dense fog is likely to occur at isolated places in Haryana and Punjab until Thursday.
