Singer Sonu Nigam says it is not necessary that his son Neevan follow his path in the music industry.

At the age of three, Neevan had sung his first song with legendary Lata Mangeshkar. He was four-year-old when he gave voice to the new version of the popular song "Kolaveri Di" sung by Tamil star Dhanush.

"We don't train him (Neevan) at all. He is small. Right now, he is the director and the staff at home acts and says dialogues. He is making a film on phone. It is not necessary he should become a singer just because I am a singer. I just want him to fly and enjoy life right now," Sonu told PTI.

Neevan has sung a few lines for the song "Machli jaal ki rani hai" for an upcoming film "Santa Banta Pvt Ltd".

"Since the song is already popular with the kids he (director Akashdeep Sabir) thought that it will be apt for my son to sing a few lines. He did record the lines on my phone and did not come to studio for it," Sonu said.

Sonu happens to be good friends with Sabir and he wanted him to sing and act in "Santa Banta Pvt. Ltd".

"He (Sabir) came up with a song, "Machli jaal ki rani hai". So he asked me if I would be able to play a part in this song," Sonu said.

Though "Machli jaal ki rani hai" is a children's poem but Sonu insists it is not for kids.

"It's actually not a kid's song. The connotation is for a girl. The lyrics later on refer to the girl. The machli becomes a girl. So it's just inspired from a kid's song but it is not for kids," he added.

The "Kal Ho Na Ho" singer got a chance to show his dancing skills in the song.

"I have worked with Remo D'Souza, Saroj Khan but never with Chinni Prakash. For the first time I was working with him and he was happy that I could pick up steps quickly," Sonu adds.

Directed by Akashdeep Sabir, "Santa Banta Pvt Ltd" stars Boman Irani and Vir Das in the lead.
