Not violating statutory norms in CBCS implementation: DU

Press Trust of India New Delhi
Delhi University today claimed that it has not violated any statutory norms in the implementation of the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) from the upcoming academic session and said it was in process of complying by the same.

An official communication was sent by the DU Registrar to all faculty, directing them to start preparations for the implementation of CBCS from the upcoming session.

Reacting to it, the varsity teachers had alleged that the University decided to go ahead with the introduction of CBCS apparently without the mandate of the executive council.

However, the varsity authorities today said it is in process of complying with the norms.

"The Academic Council has already granted approval for 'in principle' implementation of the CBCS from the 2015-16 session. This is the first step in the process of implementation.

"The implementation cannot happen unless the EC accords approval to the draft ordinance that the AC has proposed and this is in the process," DU Registrar Ram Dutt said in an official statement today.

"In the interim, all Heads of the Departments have been asked to take cognizance of and send their suggestions, as sought by the UGC, on the syllabi that have been proposed by the UGC. The University is well prepared for the transition. Hence, the question of violating any statutory provisions does not arise.

"No academic scheme in the university can ever be implemented without approval of all statutory bodies and DU has scrupulously adhered to these regulations at all times," he added.
