Noted Bengali singer Banasree Sengupta passes away

Noted Bengali singer Banasree Sengupta today passed away at a city hospital after prolonged illness.

Sengupta (71) was undergoing treatment at the state-run SSKM Hospital and died there at 11.30 AM today, her brother Surya Sengupta said.

"She was admitted at the hospital around 10 days ago with lung related problem," he said.

Reacting to the news of Sengupta's death, singer Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta termed it a personal loss.

The singer was very close to her husband 'Shantida' who died sometime ago and she was in depression since then, said Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta.

Singer Srikanto Acharya said, she was a very simple person.
