Noted poet Surjit Patar today assumed charge of the chairman of the Punjab Kala Parishad (Punjab Arts Council) here today.
Eminent theatre artist Neelam Mann Singh took charge as the senior vice chairperson of the council, an official spokesperson said.
Patar said he would work for the popularisation of the rich Punjabi heritage and culture to make it resonate in every nook and corner of the globe.

He also said his focus would be on helping youth to connect with their cultural and historical roots.
Talking to reporters on the occasion, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu expressed confidence that Patar would usher in an era of renewed cultural awakening.
