Noted scholar Prof Mehdi Raza passes away

Prof Mehdi Raza, a well known scholar and younger brother of noted writer and lyricist late Rahi Masoom Raza, passed away after a brief illness.

He was 84.

Raza, who started his career as a teacher in Aligarh Muslim University in 1958 and later became Chairman of varsity's Department of Geography, died yesterday following cardiac arrest, an AMU release issued here said today.

During his tenure as a teacher in AMU, he held a number of administrative posts.

Raza, who was born into a prominent Zamindar family in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh, is survived by his wife.

He was the younger brother of noted film writer and lyricist late Rahi Masoom Raza and the noted educationist and freedom fighter, late Prof Moonis Raza, former Vice Chancellor of Delhi University and former Chairman of Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR).
 

He was buried in the presence of eminent personalities and academicians yesterday.

A condolence meeting was today held in the Geography department where people paid rich tributes to him.
