Justice V Jagannathan ordered issue of notice when the petition came up and adjourned the matter to August 17 for the Lokayukta police to file its objections.

The petition was filed last week.

On August 7, Lokayukta police submitted its final report in the case.

In its report, Lokayukta police said Gowda was found in possession of assets worth Rs 17.5 crore, which was 43 per cent more than what he had declared when he took voluntary retirement from state government service some six years ago.

S N Balakrishna, a retired assistant manager of the state-run Visveswarayya Iron and Steel in his complaint before the Lokayukta court on September 22 last year, had charged Gowda with possessing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income and prayed for action under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Following Lokayukta court's direction to conduct investigation into the complaint, Lokayukta police had raided the residences of Gowda and his relatives in Bangalore and Mysore.
