However, no nomination was filed on the first day, Khargone Collector Naveet Kothari said, adding, nominations can be filed till May 25.
"Scrutiny will be done the next day while the last day for withdrawal of nomination is May 28," he said.
The polling will be held on June 12 and counting of votes will take place on June 15. The entire election process is expected be completed by June 18.
In order to prevent bogus voting, voter slips carrying the photo of the voters would be sent to their respective homes, the Collector said.
For ensuring free and fair polls, additional force would be deployed in 70 sensitive booths and five companies of para-military force has already reached Maheshwar, Superintendent of Police R P Singh said.
The by-poll in Maheshwar has been necessitated after the sitting MLA, Vijay Laxmi Sadho, resigned from the seat as she was elected to the Rajya Sabha.
