Expressing concerns over non-notification of thana-level committees despite increasing crimes against women, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal today urged Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung to notify the panels "without any further delay".
"I am writing to you to express serious concerns over the fact that thana-level committees which were to be notified by your esteemed self in Delhi have not been notified till date after the change of government. I have been informed the file for the same has been pending in your office since long," Maliwal said in a letter to Jung.
The DCW chief also stated that the committees perform number of functions including checking crime in their respective areas, resolving grievances and promoting police-public interaction among others.

Citing the rule that the meeting of thana-level committees are mandated to be held once in two months, Maliwal lamented that the same have not been constituted in Delhi for the past nine months.
"Therefore, I urge you to notify these Committees immediately without any further delay to increase public participation in ensuring safety and security of women in Delhi," Maliwal said, noting that there has been increase in the number of crimes being reported, especially against women.
The thana-level committees are constituted by order of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. Each committee is headed by the area MLA who represents the major parts of the jurisdiction of the police station, members of MCD/NDMC/Cantonment Board having jurisdiction of Police Station concerned, SDM, ACP, SHO of the area are the other members.
The committees also include representatives from Residential Welfare Association (RWA), Trade/Industry Associations (if any), educational institutions, women's organizations, and representatives of Students and Labour.
