Notorious chain snatcher who gave police the slip held

A chain snatcher, who had escaped from the custody of police escort earlier this month, was today arrested near Secunderabad railway station, police said.

Sleuths of Commissioner's Task force (West Zone) team apprehended Akheeluddin alias Khalifa, who is an important gang member of Sayeed Hussain alias Lamba, said Task Force DCP B Limba Reddy.

Khalifa had escaped when he was being taken to the Cherlapally jail on judicial remand.

"He started snatching chains when he was 16. He was involved in about 100 such cases. He is maintaining a gang of 3 to 4 persons and committing offences of chain snatching," police said.
 

Khalifa was arrested by LB Nagar Police and was produced in the court of LB Nagar on February 2 on PT warrant, a warrant issued for production of accused.

He was being taken to the Central Prison, Cherlapally, under police escort when near Chaitanyapuri he managed to give a slip to them with the help of his brother and others by spraying chilly powder in their eyes, they said.
