A 25-year-old youth who had allegedly staged a bomb blast through a human bomb at Ara district court on January 23, days ahead of Republic Day celebrations to enable his escape from police custody has been arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police.

The accused identified as Sachidanand Sharma alias Lambu Sharma, a resident of Ara in Bihar was arrested by the Special Cell yesterday from Maharana Pratap ISBT, near Tis Hazari in the evening hours after police received a tip off. A cash reward of Rs one lakh was declared on his arrest by Bihar Police. Bihar Police has been informed about his arrest.

The Special Cell, which specializes in Anti-Terrorist and Inter-State gangster operations, was working on some Maoist trail when Lambu Sharma's name cropped up as the protege of one Bharat Saxena (since killed in an accidental IED blast), a known Maoist and expert in bomb making.

"Sharma is a notorious criminal accused in cases of murder, bomb blast and Arms Act in Bihar. Earlier also he had twice escaped from police custody. In the 23rd January bomb blast, a police constable Amit Kumar and a woman were killed. The woman was Lambu's live-in partner whom he had used as a human bomb without her knowledge," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Rajeev Ranjan.

According to eye witnesses, the woman, who was later identified as Nageena Devi was seen talking on phone and when the prison van arrived she walked toward the van while still talking on her phone. The blast occurred when police constable Amit Kumar tried to stop her. Taking advantage of the chaos, Lambu Sharma and another prisoner Akhilesh Upadhyaya had managed to flee.

Subsequently, in March 2015, Akhilesh was apprehended but Lambu Sharma remained absconding.

Nageena Devi had come to Ara from her native place on January 21. Her husband was found to be a mentally deranged person and she had a live-in relationship with Lambu Sharma. He had staged a bomb blast in the Ara court in 2009 as well when he wanted to eliminate advocate Jitender Singh, a relative of Kamlesh who was killed by Lambu in 2004.

He took one of his associate Joginder to the Ara court as he feared being identified by Jitender Singh.

After initial briefing, when Joginder proceeded towards the chamber of Jitender carrying the live bombs, he accidentally collided with some unknown person and the bombs exploded, killing Joginder and one another advocate namely Vinay Tiwari on the spot.
