Writer K V Mohankumar has bagged this year's prestigious Vayalar Ramavarma Memorial Literature Award for his novel titled "Ushnarashi: Karappurathinte Ithihasam."
The novel, revolving around the Vayalar uprising, is one among the few literary works penned by Mohankumar, who is also the state Director of Public Instructions (DPI).
The award, instituted by the Vayalar Ramavarma Memorial Trust, comprises a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, a statuette and a citation.
Trust president M K Sanoo said the author would be presented with the honour at a function held here on October 27.
