A German electronics company has developed an automatic system that allows drivers to get out of their car and park it using a smartphone app.
The automatic parking assist system was unveiled by the German electronics company Bosch at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
It allows a driver to get out of the car then guide it into the parking space using an app on their smartphone.
Sensors in the car scan the parking space as the driver passes by, then, with the driver inside the car or outside, either reverses into a parking bay or parallel parks on the side of a road, 'Irish Examiner' reported.
The firm also showed how car users will be able to make hands-free calls and enter driving directions using just their voices.
"The vehicle is fitted with 12 ultrasonic sensors, and when the driver wishes to park they just have to enable the system and sensors start scanning the environment," said Fred Sejalon, engineering manager at Bosch.
"If a suitable parking space is found the driver can either stay in the vehicle or step out and, using their smartphone, let the vehicle do the rest. The system controls vehicle speed and the steering wheel and gear shift," Sejalon said.
The technology can be used in any car as long as it has the capability to allow control of the steering and gears. The system is expected to be available by next year.
