Disney has teamed up with a startup in the UK to create low-cost bionic hands for child amputees that are inspired by Marvel, 'Frozen' and 'Star Wars'.

Open Bionics and Disney have created a low-cost range of bionic hands for child amputees and currently three bionic hands on offer; a Marvel Iron Man hand, a Frozen Snowflake hand, and a Star Wars Lightsaber hand.

Disney donated USD 120,000 to the project and has provided royalty free licences, 'Metro' reported.

"Now kids can get excited about their prosthetics. They won't have to do boring physical therapy, they'll train to become heroes. They're not just getting medical devices, they're getting bionic hands inspired by their favourite characters," the company wrote on its website.

"All of a sudden they're (the children) not being asked how they lost their hand," said Joel Gibbard, CEO of Open Bionics.

"They're being asked where they got their cool robot hand, how does it feel, and how does it work?" Gibbard said.
