"We are going to make sure that the paper work is being done in a proper way... The merger process will be completed before the election (Feb-March 2013)," Leader of Opposition and NPP leader Conrad K Sangma told reporters today.

On the rumoured disqualification threat by the NCP, Conrad said, "I think some people are not clear about the constitution ... The precedence in the past clearly shows that the Legislative Party, if it to merge with other parties, it does not have to be at the national level..."

Taking shelter on the provision of the 10th Schedule Para 4, Conrad said, "two third majority of the party to be able to join a new party."

Reiterating that he is part of the NPP, the son of P A Sangma said the party at the grass root would also be organized as NPP.

"We are going to Delhi and consult lawyers in Delhi for the merger... And it is taking place," Conrad said.

The NPP is a registered political party (1989) and is recognized by the Election Commission of India in Manipur.

The NPP has to contest elections in Meghalaya and win at least six per cent vote before it is recognized in the state and if the party secures six per cent votes in four states then the NPP would be recognized as a National Party, Conrad informed.

The NCP had reportedly threatened to take legal actions against its MLAs who agreed to P A Sangma's merger with the NPP.
