Opposition National People's Party (NPP) today sought introduction of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya until an alternative mechanism to check influx in this tribal-dominated state was implemented.
"We demand introduction of ILP till such time a comprehensive mechanism is put in place to check influx in the state," James Kongal Sangma, NPP Spokesperson told reporters.
Implementation of either of these could have an adverse impact on tourism and development of the state, but any demographic change would not be allowed, he said.
