Demanding immediate election to Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), National Peoples Party (NPP) president Purno Agitok Sangma today said the state government should impose Administrator's Rule in since its term was extended in an "unconstitutional" manner.
"We don't find any justification in extending the tenure of the GHADC ... If elections for any reasons cannot be held then it should be brought under Administrator's Rule," Sangma, also a former Lok Sabha speaker told PTI here.
His statement came in the wake of NPP extending full support to the ongoing two-day bandh called by an NGO in Garo Hills region demanding immediate polls GHADC.

Asked about the reasons behind the government's failure to conduct the election Sangma said it had said that the strength of the district council would be increased. "But in the agreement signed between ANVC and ANVCB, Centre and state government nothing was mentioned except that they may consider amendment of the sixth schedule.
