NSCM(IM) operative held in Arunachal Pradesh

Continuing its intense operation against underground outfits in Arunachal Pradesh, the Longding Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of DAO division, apprehended one NSCN(IM) cadre from Niausa village in Longding district of the state.

Based on specific intelligence inputs, self-styled corporal of the outfit Phawang Wangsu was apprehended from the village during an operation conducted yesterday afternoon, Defence PRO Colonel C Konwer informed in a release here today.

The NSCN(IM) operative was trying to terrorise and was attempting extortion in the village, the release said.

A pistol, live ammunition and opium was recovered from his possession and on interrogation he admitted allegiance to NSCN(IM) and informed he joined the outfit in 2010 and had also undergone training in a NSCN camp in Dimapur.
 

The security forces have been carrying out aggressive operations in the state and the arrest has struck a blow to the extortion activities being carried out by the underground cadres of the group in the area, the PRO said.

The operation has tightened the noose around the outfit and has brought relief to the local population, the release added.
