Some six plays including 'Mantoiyat', by Mahmood Farooqui, 'Mantorama' and 'Kaun Hai Yeh Gustakh' are part of the 15-day theatre extravaganza, which runs from January 5 to 20.
The festival this year has a rich offering of 87 productions selected from all over the world and India.
Hindi play 'Atmakatha' written by Mahesh Elkunchwar and directed by Vinay Sharma will be the inaugural performance. It will also mark the comeback of theatre veteran Kulbhushan Kharbanda on stage after a long time.
"This time we are paying tribute to Saadat Hasan Manto and some of his plays including 'Mantoiyat' and 'Mantorama'. We are also focusing on the conversation after the play which will enable us to make theatre a part of us. There will be a rich galore of 85 plays across the globe bringing back the age-old traditional theatre," said Amal Allana, chairperson of National School of Drama (NSD).
The theatre festival will also bring a repertoire of William Shakespear's seven plays that range from 'Lear' as a solo performance from Turkmenistan to 'Piya Behroopiya', a Hindi adaptation of 'Twelfth Night' that played at the Golden Globe theatre in London last season.
There will be a three hour long Bengali original text adaptation of 'Macbeth' by Bengali theatre and stage actor Kaushik Sen. (MORE)
