It is not always easy to translate the many contrasting ideas and the lyrical prose of Mohan Rakesh's Hindi play "Ashadh Ka Ek Din" but NSD students staged an engaging interpretation of the famous story.
The play, designed and directed by Robin Das with music by Jhilmil Hazarika and lights by Souti Chakraborty, was staged last evening.
Rakesh's debut 1958 play, which means a monsoon day and is considered the first modern Hindi drama, revolves around Kalidas and the muse that he abandons in his quest to find fame and recognition which leads to his disillusionment.

The drama lovers have always been fascinated by the many ideas that Rakesh presents in the Kalidas and Mallika's tragic love story which he was inspired to write after reading "Meghdoot".
The presentation by National School of Drama, which will continue till May 1, saw laudable performances by Medha Aich in the role of Mallika, Rahil Bhardwaj/Vivek Kumar as Kalidas, Kaviraj Laique as Kalidas' enemy Vilom and Chetan Padhiyar as Matul.
