The Nair Service Society has filed a criminal defamation case against Indian Union Muslim League organ 'Chandrika' daily in connection with an article published in it on June 2 that allegedly humiliated the community organisation.
The petition filed by NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair at the Judicial First Class Magistrate at Kottayam yesterday, sought to initiate criminal charges against the daily's Printer and Publisher, Chief Editor, News Editor and columnist for publishing the article in the editorial page of the daily.
The complainant alleged that the article was published with the clear knowledge of IUML leadership. The NSS had filed petitions in the High Court against the Education department controlled by the League for its move to sabotage aided school sector in the state and this was the reason for publishing such an article.

The daily had apologised for publishing the article after the NSS sent a legal notice, which was rejected by the latter saying it was not satisfactory.
The article had attacked NSS founder leader Mannath Padmanabhan and contested the organisation's claim as a 'forward' and majority caste. It also alleged that Sukumaran Nair had the agenda of the RSS.
Judge A M Basheer posted the case for July 11.
