The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) has said that failure on the part of Delhi University authorities to ensure transparency in DUSU polls will "undermine the legitimacy" of the student body election.

The Congress-affiliated students body made the remarks today after the DUSU election authorities "refused" to implement some measures suggested by it.

The NSUI demanded mock voting on all EVMs, installation of VVPAT machines, and appointment of party polling agents to ensure fair polls.

"The poll authorities have not agreed to our demands. DUSU poll is a private election, not conducted by election commission of the Centre or state. In such a case, they have to take up certain steps to ensure transparency," said Ruchi Gupta, AICC in-charge for NSUI.

"Mock drills on EVMs and appointment of polling agents, all these don't cost, but we do not understand why the poll authorities not considering our reforms," Gupta said.
