The NSUI today urged DUSU poll authorities to accept its candidate Rocky Tuseed's nomination claiming it was declined on grounds of "disciplinary action" which were not clearly defined.

Calling it "arbitrary" and "malafide", the Congress- affiliated National Students Union of India said there was no clear definition for application of rules.

"Without clear definition, there is bound to be arbitrary application of standards which is bad in law. Will a fine of Rs 300 for breaking a chair also constitute disciplinary action'?" the NSUI said in the letter.

Lyngdoh Committee guidelines are nationally applicable while disciplinary proceedings standards vary across the country, across universities and even across different colleges. Hence some standards must be defined lest there is arbitrary application, it added.

DUSU Chief Election Officer was not available for comments.

To further back its claim, the students body alleged DU's Election Commission of changing its stand from previous year.

"In fact this arbitrariness has happened with the same candidate when the Election Commission of DU cleared this candidate to contest his Dept election (also under DUSU) last year. Candidate was president of Department of Buddhist Studies, DU. EC as an institution cannot apply different standards year on year," NSUI said.
