NTPC completes tax-free bond issue of Rs 500 crore

State-run NTPC today completed tax-free bonds issue of Rs 500 crore.

The company had received approval from the Central Board of Direct Taxes to raise Rs 500 crore through tax-free bond issue in addition to Rs 1,750 crore the company raised in December last year.

"CBDT (Central Board for Direct Taxes) has allocated to NTPC an additional limit of Rs 500 crore for issue of tax-free bonds, this was in addition to Rs 1,750 crore given by CBDT, last year," NTPC said in a stock exchange filing.

The tax-free bonds issue of Rs 500 crore was completed on a private placement basis on February 25, 2014, with coupon rate of 8.19 per cent, 8.63 per cent and 8.61 per cent for 10, 15 and 20 years respectively, it added.
 

Shares of the company closed at Rs 112.60, down 2.51 per cent on the BSE.
