Number of factories increase in Delhi

The number of working factories registered under Factory Act 1948 in Delhi, increased from 2878 in 2010-11 to 2976 in 2011-12 as per the report on Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) of Delhi government.

"Out of 2976 working factories, about 788 came into existence in Delhi after the year 2001. About 950 (32 per cent of the total) factories are classified as Private Limited Companies, 852 are under partnership and 1030 are having individual proprietorship.

"The maximum numbers of factories (486) are engaged in manufacturing of textiles and wearing apparel followed by 270 engaged in manufacturing of electrical equipments, 257 in manufacturing of fabricated metal products," said the data prepared by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics.
 

About 1.19 lakhs persons are working in these factories and 1251 factories (42 per cent) are having 100 or more workers.

About 566 factories are having 50 to 99 workers and in 902 factories, the number of workers varies from 10 to 49 workers.

"The total output of 2976 working factories in Delhi increased from Rs 48687 crores in 2010-11 to Rs 50900 crores in 2011-12 (increase by 4.5 per cent).

"The gross value added increased from Rs 6328 crores to Rs 6951 crores during the same period. Net income of these factories also increased from Rs 4698 crores in 2010-11 to Rs. 5143 crores in 2011-12," said officials.

The District-wise data reveals that 925 (31 per cent) factories are in operation in North-West District, followed by 789 (27 per cent) in South District, 744 (25 per cent) in West District, 225 (7.6 per cent) in East District and 106 (3.6 per cent) in Central District, 54 in North, 53 in North East, 45 in South West and 36 in New Delhi District.
