Meghalaya Governor V Shanmuganathan today termed nursing professionals 'god-like' for their services towards humanity.
"Nurses are important in everyone's life. They are considered as gods and are god-like," Shanmuganathan said while addressing the inaugural function of a three-day national seminar at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) near here today.
"Nurses focus on the vulnerable and the needy in the society. They have a lot of patience with patients. They provide support and care to those in need," he said, adding that they serve heart and soul that is why they are godlike.

Lauding them, he also referred to a temple on the banks of Kaveri river in Tamil Nadu where the main deity is a nurse called 'Thaiyu Manavan'.
NEIGRIHMS director A G Ahangar in his address said the institute is awaiting commissioning of a separate complex to house the nursing school which he said will be expanded to MSc and PhD in the very near future.
Ahangar also highlighted the need to support nurses with new IT gadgets in the market to as they serve in some of the remotest corners of the country.
Nearly 700 participants from 22 states attended the seminar.
