A section of nursing staff at Asha Kiran, the home for mentally challenged persons, went on strike today to protest against the dismissal of a group of nurses, bringing the functioning of the home to a grinding halt.
The group of nurses also went to meet Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and submitted a memorandum demanding reinstatement of the dismissed nurses, sources from the hospital said.
The nurses wing said that they will not resume duties and continue with the strike till their colleagues are taken back.

Meanwhile, authorities at the shelter claimed that the nursing staff went on strike without any previous intimation which affected the home services.
Around 24 nurses were allegedly sacked recently, sources said.
There are around 1,200 mentally challenged persons lodged in the Asha Kiran Home.
