Nursing staff to be trained in Guj to promote breastfeeding

The Gujarat health minister today said that the nursing staff at the government district hospitals will be trained to promote breastfeeding among lactating mothers, which will help reduce the neonatal mortality rate in the state.

Various district hospitals in the state are observing World Breastfeeding Week- 2014, which has been themed this year- Breastfeeding: A Winning Goal- For Life.

District hospitals in the state are organising awareness programmes and campaigns to promote early initiation of breastfeeding among lactating mothers, health minister Nitin Patel told to PTI, adding, that that the government is taking efforts to reduce the neonatal mortality rate further.
 

"Government has joined hands with various agencies and NGOs to encourage communities to promote breastfeeding and also educate young mothers about it. We also plan to run programmes to train nursing staff at hospitals," he said.

Medical colleges of Vadodara, Surat, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Jamnagar and other places and private hospitals are also organising various programmes to observe the week.
