Legendary singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's widow Nahid Begum died in Canada last week and was laid to rest in Faisalabad today.

Her dead body was brought to the Lahore Airport from Canada today. Popular singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, nephew of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, received the body and took it to Faisalabad district.

She was laid to rest next to her husband's grave at Jhang Road graveyard, Faisalabad district, some 150 kilometres from here.

A large number of Nusrat's fans attended the burial.

Nahid Begum was in her 50s and died of lung cancer in Canada on September 13. She had long been fighting the cancer and last Friday she died in a local hospital in Canada.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, the Pakistani devotional singer, died at the age of 48 in 1997 due to multiple organ failure in London.

Khan was a master of qawwali singing, which combines lyrics from Sufi religious poems with hypnotic rhythms and vocal chants.

Considered a superstar in the Sufi community, Khan drew thousands of fans to concerts where many danced, lost in ecstatic trances, and threw money at his feet while he played.

Nahid Begum had moved to the UK and then Canada after his death.
