NVDA adopts PM's 'per drop more crop' mantra for irrigation

The Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA) has said it has adopted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mantra of "Per Drop, More Crop" for its irrigation projects.

"All future irrigation projects are being developed under the framework of 'Per Drop, More Crop' principle given by the Prime Minister," an official of the state Public Relations Department said.

A review meeting was chaired by Minister of state for Narmada Valley Development (independent charge) Lal Singh Arya at Mantralaya here yesterday, where it was informed that efficiency to use water has increased by 50 per cent in the projects where micro irrigation technique was used, the official said.
 

In the meeting, NVDA Vice-Chairman Rajneesh Vaish said the future irrigation projects of the authority will have micro-irrigation techniques.

"Irrigation is being done through micro-irrigation techniques in Punasa, Khargone and Omkareshwar lift irrigation projects and with that, the efficiency to use water has been increased by 50 per cent," Vaish said.

On the occasion, he informed that the work was underway on Narmada-Malwa-Gambhir link project, to provide irrigation facility to 50,000 hectare agriculture land covering 158 villages of Indore and Ujjain districts.

Lift irrigation schemes of Alirajpur, Balwara, Chhegaon Makhan, Bistan, Simrol, Amba Chandan and Harsud have been sanctioned by the authority.

At present, irrigation facility has been developed for five lakh hectares area by the authority's ongoing and under construction projects in the year 2015-16.

The authority is making efforts to extend irrigation facility for 11 lakh hectare area by 2019 from the present target of 7.98 lakh hectare, Vaish added.
