"There are signs of cigarette burns are all over her body besides marks of severe injury ... Animal like treatment was meted out to the hapless girl," Alka Lamba, member of a special team of NWC that flew down here to probe the incident in the heart of the city on Monday, told reporters here.
However, Lamba said the girl was safe and had been medically examined after the incident but the report was yet to be declared."We shall seek the medical report and on going back to New Delhi we shall submit our findings to the chairperson of NWC within 10 to 15 days."
"The girl is determined to ensure that justice is meted out and the seven accused, who are still at large are brought to book. They are a threat to our mothers and daughters."
The need of the hour is to provide her good counselling so that she can resume her normal life, Lamba said and demanded a special court to punish the culprits.
Criticising the state police for reaching the spot 45 minutes after the incident, she said there was also no police patrol. Bystanders and shopowners had remained mute spectators as the 'shameful drama' was going on. "This is deplorable."
However, the NWC team was satisfied with police investigation so far, she said adding steps should be taken by the state government besides laws for providing protection to women. MORE
