A poacher was killed and two others have been apprehended by forest protection force personnel in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam's Morigaon district today, a forest official said.
A gang of poachers tried to enter the wildlife sanctuary last night to kill rhinos and take away their horns and came face to face with the forest staff near Pagladuba forest camp early this morning, Sanctuary Ranger Ashok Das said here.
The poachers fired upon the forest guards and heavy exchange of fire took place killing one poacher while two others were apprehended.
One rifle and several rounds of bullets were recovered from the possession of the poachers who were suspected to have come from Nagaland.
