The vigilance sleuths today arrested an Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer for allegedly taking bribe at his official residence at Udala in Mayurbhanj district.
"The accused Santosh Kumar Mohanty, an OAS and Tahasildar of Udala in Mayurbhanj district was caught red handed by the Vigilance officers while accepting the bribe amount of Rs 5,000," an official said.
The officer allegedly demanded illegal gratification of Rs 5,000 from the complainant Jogendra Kar of Udala town for release of his security deposit amounting to Rs 44,160 which was deposited for a Bali Ghat (sand) lease.

Bribe amount of Rs 5,000 was recovered from his possession and seized in presence of witnesses, the official said.
A case has been registered under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act against Mohanty.
