US Ambassador Richard Rahul Verma today said one of the biggest priority of the Obama government has been to give voice to the voiceless.

"A big priority of President Obama has been to stand up for people who do not have a voice," the envoy told students of the Global Links programme and Career Readiness Camp here.

He said they do it through skills, education, training, empowerment, listening, regulatory changes and others.

Supporting the issue of rights of transgenders, he said "we all are talented" and added that one of the focus areas of the US government has been the rights of women.

The Ambassador, of Indian origin, is on a three-day-long visit to Kolkata beginning today and is scheduled to meet West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tomorrow.
