US President Barack Obama has praised Hillary Clinton describing her as a great Secretary of State, days after he had invited his former top diplomat for a lunch at the White House.

"By the end of my first term we had become genuinely close, and I could not have more respect for her. She was a great Secretary of State," Obama told NBC channel last night.

"I invited her. And we had a great time. She had that post-administration glow. You know, when folks leave the Whitehouse, like two weeks later they look great. But it was a wonderful conversation," he said.

65-year-old Clinton served as the Secretary of State for four years in the first term of Obama's administration. She was succeeded by John Kerry.

Many speculate that Clinton is the strong presidential candidate for the 2016 elections.

"Keep in mind she's been there before," Obama said when asked about Clinton's chances of running for White House in 2016. "She doesn't have to measure them," Obama said.
