OBC status to Uttarkashi to help people: Bahuguna

By declaring Uttarkashi as an OBC area, the state government has kept its promise made to the people of the district, Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna today said.

Laying the foundation stone of development projects worth over Rs 238 crore in Uttarkashi, Bahuguna said the OBC area status to the district will help residents of the area, especially the youth.

Apart from being hit hard by the June calamity, Uttarkashi also lacks development and hence all efforts are underway to give a boost to development activities in the district, he said.

Bahuguna assured that projects whose foundation stone has been laid will soon be visible on he ground.
 

Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited will soon start work on the flood safety projects worth Rs 132 crore in Joshiara and removal of silt and rubble from Bhagirathi river will also begin in a couple of days, he said.

On steps being taken to strengthen the deprived sections, Bahuguna said the state government has decided to set up a separate directorate for the scheduled castes.

Accompanied by his son Saket and state Disaster Management Minister Yashpal Arya, Bahuguna later inaugurated an airstrip at Chanyalisaur in the district.
