A Jadavpur University student was allegedly beaten up by a policeman after which the officer in-charge of the Jadavpur police station was forced to apologise today before protesting students.

The students alleged that one of them was beaten up by a constable last night when he was standing at a tea shop near the Jadavpur police station.

The police denied beating anyone but as the students began a protest outside the police station, officer in-charge V K Singh apologised, saying the incident should not have happened.

Student leader Samanya Raha said they would submit a deputation to the university vice-chancellor Suranjan Das tomorrow in protest against the incident.
