The Officer-in-Charge of Hansdiha police station was injured today during a protest by locals here which saw police resorting to firing in the air to disperse the irate crowd.
According to police, the incident took place at Hansdiha in Dumka district where locals had staged a roadblock on the Dumka-Bhagalpur road over their demand for compensation for a fellow villager who was run over by a truck. They also sought the arrest of the driver of the truck.
The OC, Ramawatar Yadav, was injured when the villagers allegedly attacked him while also damaging a police vehicle. He was taken to the Saraiyahat Health Centre.
Police had to fire warning shots in the air in order to disperse the villagers, who had squatted on the road at Kumarhat village.
