The officer-in-charge of Bhatar police station in Burdwan district and two policemen were injured when a violent crowd threw stones and beat them up when they went to a village where a housewife was burnt to death this morning.

The police said that a housewife was allegedly strangulated and then set on fire by her in-laws at Owr village in the Bhatar police station area in a suspected dowry-related incident.

Following this angry relatives of the victim and other people raided the in-laws' house and ransacked it.

When the OC, Mithun Ghosh, and a team of policemen went to the village they were beaten up and hit with stones, resulting in injuries. The police then used tear gas to control the mob.

The OC and the two policemen were admitted to the Bardhaman Medical College Hospital.
