Odisha Assembly passes Bill to set up univ on public health

The Odisha Assembly has passed the AIPH University, Odisha Bill, 2017 for establishment of a private unitary university on public health.

The AIPH (Asian Institute of Public Health) University, Odisha, Bill, introduced by Odisha's Health and Family Welfare minister Pratap Jena, was passed in the House yesterday.

Introducing the Bill, Jena said the proposed university will provide a platform for higher education in public health and research facility for finding solution to local health problems.

The proposed university will offer courses which are presently not taught by any university in the state, the minister said adding, the students who are going outside the state for igher education in public health will get a chance to pursue theur studies at home at an affordable cost.
 

This apart, the proposed university will create employment opportunities, he said,

The Bill was passed in the Assembly when the opposition Congress and BJP had walked out of the House.
