Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today said that he will raise the state's demand for a special category status at the NITI Aayog meeting to be held in Delhi tomorrow.

"I will raise the special category status issue at the NITI Aayog meeting," Patnaik, who left today on a five-day visit to the national capital, said.

"Besides, I will also seek appointments with different union ministers to discuss the state matters," the chief minister said.

Odisha has been demanding for special category status owing to its large population of tribals and dalits. The state is also frequently affected by natural calamities.

However, the state has been denied the tag since it is not a border state like others which enjoy the status.
