A student of a private engineering college here has complained that she was gangraped by five youths at Chakradharpur in neighbouring Jharkhand, police said on Tuesday.

In her complaint before the Government Railway Police (GRP) here, the woman said she had left her hostel on December 31 for her home in Jharsuguda and a youth befriended her at Rourkela railway station.

The man introduced himself as a friend of her elder brother and took her to Chakradharpur, stating that he would take her to Jharsuguda by bus as there was a direct bus service to her place from Chakradhapur.

However, instead of taking her to Jharsuguda, the man took her to Sonua where four other youths joined him and all of them raped her at a nearby place, Superintendent of Police (GRP), Rourkela, Ajay Pratap Swain said.

The woman who was abandoned at Lotapara near Sonua was rescued by local people and she came back to Rourkela. Subsequently, she filed the FIR with GRP here on the evening of January 6, Swain said.

Medical check-up of the woman was conducted and her statement was recorded on Monday, he said.

GRP officials are investigating the case based on the information and complaints of the woman, while a team has left for Jahrkhand as part of the probe, the SP said.
