"We have suspended the agitation in view of the government's assurance that the contractual nurses completing six years in job will be made regular staff," said All Odisha Contractual Nurses Association secretary Shivani Das.
The nurses strike since July 15 had severely affected patient care service in all the three state run medical colleges besides a number of hospitals.
The Orissa High Court two days ago had also asked the nurse association to explain as to why ESMA (essential service maintenance act) would not be imposed on their strike.
The association have also accepted the government's announcement that they would be given remuneration according to the recommendation of the 6th Pay Commission. The state government said more posts of regular nurses would be created in view of the demands.
"We hope that the government will fulfill our demands. If the demands are not fulfilled, we will be forced to return to agitation during the assembly session," Das said adding that they would henceforth work overtime to serve the patients.
Health minister Prasanna Acharya welcomed the nurses decision of suspending the agitation.
