A special court awarded here today two-year jail term to a former Social Education Organiser (SEO) for selling food items meant for infants and pregnant women in open market.

Special Vigilance Court Judge Tara Prasad Rath also imposed a fine of Rs 2.5 lakh on SEO Ananda Chandra Nayak.

Failure to pay the penalty will entail an additional jail term of three years for Nayak, the court ordered.

Nayak was initially accused of misappropriating funds to the tune of Rs 4.54 lakh in 1985-86 for the food items meant for infants and pregnant women. Later the Vigilance Department charged him of misappropriating Rs 1.75 lakh by selling the food items in open market.

The funds for the food were donated by an international organisation and Nayak was working as SEO under the project.
