A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
"About 1.60 lakh boys of BPL families will get benefit from the new decision," an official said.
The decision came after the huge success of a similar scheme for all the 10th standard girl students irrespective of any category in the state.
Earlier, the state government had launched a scheme to provide free bicycles for all the 10th standard students belonging to scheduled tribe and scheduled caste categories.
With addition of BPL boys, the number of beneficiaries in the free bicycle scheme increased to 4.5 lakh, the official said.
