Odisha government dismissed 408 doctors posted in remote and rural areas today for their long absence without the required permission of the authorities.

Officials said though the state government issued show cause notices to absentee doctors, majority of them did not respond.

Only four doctors turned up and explained causes of their absence and have been spared by the state government, the officials said.
